In celebrating its 40th anniversary of awarding prizes to international scientists for outstanding discoveries and contributions to medical science,
The Gairdner Foundation conducted guest lectures at universities across Canada. During the 40 year history, 251 awards have been made. Remarkably,
51 of the recipients have later received the Nobel Prize.
The award presentations and celebrations for the 40th anniversary were held in Toronto and Congress Canada was contracted to manage these
special events. The first event was held at the Art Gallery of Ontario. The Joey and Toby Tanenbaum Sculpture Atrium was used for a reception
and official opening of the Toronto celebrations. The sunken Walker Court was transformed to an elegant dinner venue.
